Just Kampers

We’re already getting excited about the Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show, which is still a few months away.

Since we can no longer hold our Just Kampers Open Day, we’re getting behind the Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show as a way to help the charity raise money, and it’s already shaping up to be an excellent classic car show.

About the Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show

We’ll be keeping up our support of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care by supporting the Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show.

Registration is now open for the event, which will see over 500 classic cars from different marques, decades, and styles come together to enjoy an afternoon in the stunning English countryside and a tour of the private motoring museum owned by Robert Tanya Lewis, who have generously offered to host the event in Churt, Surrey.

Name: Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show
Date: 6 August 2023
Location: Churt, Surrey
Ticket Prices: £25, which goes to running the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice.

The hospice has been kindly offered this wonderful private venue, free of charge. The owners of the site have a magnificent collection of over 60 pristine classic cars, over 100 petrol pumps and thousands of pieces of memorabilia, which you’ll be able to check out at the Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show.

Why we can’t hold the Just Kampers Open Day anymore

Unfortunately, the JK Open Day has been beset by a number of challenges which all mounted up to make running the event nearly impossible.

Issues like site security, costs, and logistics have put an end to the Open Day, but we’re proud of everything we achieved together and the money we raised for various charities over the last ten years of running the event.

Here’s a brief summary of the issues that stymied the JK Open Day:
• Water here is supplied by a borehole, which can’t keep up with the increased demand,
• The locking security gate creates overnight access issues, but is required for other businesses’ insurance and to protect farm equipment,
• Difficulties getting everyone in and out safely, along a single-track road,
• Concerns around the people who live in the houses bordering JK HQ,
• The increasing costs of holding the event have made it harder to raise money for charity,
• Our neighbouring field is usually full of sheep, and they need to stay in there.

Our dedication to supporting charities hasn’t diminished at all, though, even if we can’t use the JK Open Day to raise money.
Some of the JK Team have signed up to the London to Brighton charity cycle ride in September, and we’re continuing to support Surfers Against Sewage as part of their 250 Club.

Other VW Shows & Events in 2023

There’s a huge amount of different shows and events on the horizon, spaced throughout the year and across the UK.

We’ve done our best to put together a list of VW shows & events which you can head to, and put them all together in one place. If you’re looking for something a bit more unusual, then you should also check out our list of 100 Things to do for Under £100.
