About the JKR50 Fridge-Freezer
What is the JKR50?
We’ve created the JKR50 fridge-freezer using the same top-quality components as other luxury campervan fridges, but for a much lower price.
Designed to work perfectly in a whole range of different campers and motorhomes, the JKR50 will keep your food and drinks perfectly chilled, even in challenging outdoor conditions, without draining your vehicle’s leisure battery.
Who is the JKR50 designed for?
Our JKR50 fridge-freezers have been designed for van lifers, campers, off-grid explorers, and road-trippers who need a durable, flexible refrigerator for their adventures.
Building on the popularity of the JKF50, which we launched back in 2021, the JKR50 has been designed to be even better than the previous version, with more flexibility and even simpler controls.
Whether you're embarking on a weekend getaway, a trip to a festival, or a lengthy off-grid adventure, our JKR50 fridge-freezers have got you covered!
Premium Quality Components
Our JKR50 fridge-freezers are built using state-of-the-art components, including a sophisticated LG compressor known for efficiency, quiet operation, and outstanding reliability.
These premium quality components are housed inside a well-built housing, available in silver or black, which is tough enough to survive off-road adventures and looks great, too!
Why We Created the JKR50
The JKR50 is a new and improved fridge-freezer from Just Kampers, created to be even better than the JKF50 we launched a few years ago.
Back in 2020 after becoming frustrated by unreliable and expensive campervan fridges, and decided to try our hand at creating our own fridge-freezer. The result was the JKF50, which was hugely popular as soon as we launched it in 2021.
Just Kampers has been part of the VW community here in the UK since 1989, and the dozens of members of the JK Team have spent countless nights away in our campervans, from weeks-long adventures to nights away by the sea.
We poured all of this experience and insight into creating an affordable campervan fridge-freezer which could be used for extended periods without putting a huge strain on your camper’s leisure battery.
The original JKF50 was engineered to address campers’ real-world needs, creating a fridge-freezer that truly performs at a reasonable price, and now the JKR50 is set to further improve on that design.
What Options Are There for the JKR50?
The JKR50 fridge-freezer is available in Black or Silver, which are both great colours for blending into most campervan interiors without standing out.
We also offer money-saving bundle kits, including kits with power management accessories and related campervan conversion parts, to help you get the bits you need to install the JKR50 fridge-freezer as part of a campervan conversion.

Installing your JKR50 fridge-freezer is a quick and simple process if you’ve got the tools, experience, and confidence required to do the job yourself.

Air Flow Around Your JKR50 Fridge-Freezer
It’s vital that you allow for proper air flow and ventilation around your JKR50, to ensure that it functions properly and doesn’t overheat.
You'll need to allow for at least 20mm of space to either side of your JKR50, and at least 50mm of space at the rear and above.
This will allow cooler air to reach the back of your fridge-freezer, so that it works efficiently and isn’t damaged by overheating.

Installing the JKR50 Yourself
If you're planning to install your JKR50 fridge-freezer to your camper yourself, then there are a few different steps to the process, which are detailed in the JKR50 installation guide and laid out below:
Step One – Double check the electrics first
Before you begin the installation of your JKR50, you’ll need to check the continuity of the earth circuit and carry out electrical safety tests to confirm that the fridge-freezer is functioning correctly and is safe to use.
Step Two – Preparing the space for your JKR50
You’ll need to prepare the area that you’ll be fitting your JKR50 into before you begin the installation. Ensure that the space has a flat, level surface for your fridge-freezer to stand on, and that the area is away from heat sources like ovens and hobs.
The space for your JKR50 will need to be at least 420mm wide, 527mm deep, and 582mm high to ensure that the fridge-freezer has proper ventilation space.
Step Three – Connect the power supply
Double check that the power cable is not damaged, and ensure you’ve got the correct gauge of wire for the length of cable that you’ll be using.
14 AWG cable is recommended if you’re using around 6m of cable, while 12 AWG cable is recommended for 11m of cable.
Remember to leave enough extra length in the cable to allow you to move and reposition your JKR50. Connect the power cable from your JKR50 into your vehicle’s 12v DC electrical system.
Step Four – Fitting your JKR50
With the cable connected, carefully slide your fridge-freezer into position while ensuring that you’re not tangling, bending, or trapping your power cable. Take care not to scratch the floor of your camper – you can slip some cardboard underneath your JKR50 while you slide it into place, and then remove the cardboard once it’s in position.
Step Five – Electrical safety checks
With your JKR50 in place, check that the electrical system is working correctly and that the earth circuit is functioning correctly. It’s best to check this now, before securing your JKR50.
Step Six – Securing your JKR50 into position
The simplest method to fix your JKR50 into place is to use the mounting holes in the sides of the fridge-freezer itself. There are two of these on each side of the JKR50, which are fitted with screw holders. Drill through the screw holder in each of these mounting holes and into the metal side panel of your JKR50.
You can then use four M5 screws to fix your fridge-freezer into the cabinet space you’ve located it in. This will hold the unit in position while you’re in transit, and the screws can be easily removed if you need to move your JKR50 to a new position or to a different vehicle.
Step Seven – Switch on your JKR50
Now that you’ve confirmed it’s wired in safely, and you’ve secured your JKR50 in place, you’re free to switch it on and start using your new fridge-freezer!
