1972 VW T2 Bay Crossover genuine Camper from new - not panel van. original danbury - rhd uk solid. Needs cosmetic bits - winter project.
This is a great opportunity to buy a very solid T2 genuine Danbury campervan - 1972 crossover (lowlight) model. Bought and got to the point she's currently at, for my son's 17th birthday in september - stupidly we overlooked the cost of insurance once he passes his test - and it has made it totally unrealistic - it's astronomical. So we have got him a VW Golf - and the bus is up for sale. Genuine Danbury campervan - not just a converted panel van - most of the interior is included - sink, cooker, 2 seat bases etc - needs a bed adding. Also 8 cushions. We bought the bus totally stripped out, and the rear is currently a blank canvas, ready for the included bits, or any interior you choose. I have reinstalled the engine and gearbox - everything underneath is good and solid - it went back together beautifully - and she runs and drives really well - the only issue is the rear left brake is binding - it may free off with use - but they are dead simple to work on anyway - and a good going through of all brakes and tyres etc would be recommended as she's been off the road for approx 5 years. Always dry stored. Underneath good and solid - all jacking points and outriggers are solid. No dodgy welding to mention whatsoever. She has her original belly pans on, which an sometimes hide all sorts - but giving it a good tap doesnt reveal the dreaded falling rust noise lol - and she's a goodun. Bodywise there are a couple of areas that need attention as usual on these - all will be photographed and added. Primarily the doglegs, rear cross panel in front of the rear bumper, and an area on the passenger side just behind sliding door. And the A pillar drivers side. The front doors cost £1500 - they are fresh US imports and solid as a rock with no repairs - also, being US doors, they have the desireable opening quarterlight windows. And they close and fit superbly. Deluxe front doorcards. with arm rests. Porsche seats. Nice chrome caps and vanity rings. New window rubbers fitted to nearside windows. Brand new gutters fitted by previous owner on the nearside - and new guttering sections included for drivers side - not that they need doing in my opinion. She needs a rear headlining fitting, the sliding door mechanism sorted as it doesn't currently open - needs a runner fitting. ALL floor sections are solid and look original - again no nasty welded patchwork quilt going on. Wheel arch inners and outers are solid and not repaired. Front beam, Y sections, clip etc all solid. I've handpainted the sliding door - which was nicely repaired along the bottom by the previous owner - and this paint needs flatting and polishing. The roof could do with a respray - but looks nice and ratty/patina'd as it is to be fair. The bottom edge of the tailgate is crusty - needs a repair or replacement eventually. Windscreen has a crack in it. 2 original keys that operate all locks and the ignition. Starts runs and drives spot on. All lights work. All clocks work. All switches work. All original VW glass. Nice folder of history and old MOT's included. Very sensibly priced to reflect the bodywork issues that have been detailed - and the rear needs refitting. Great investment - genuine original microbus/campers (not converted panel vans) are getting harder to find - especially RHD solid ones. And this one (Jim) is not too bad at all for an old boy! If he was mint he would be £20k+ and his chassis is original and solid enough to make him a superb candidate for a full resto! My son is genuinely gutted - but also a realist - God love him. Any trials, viewings, inspections, drives etc are totally welcomed and invited. It's a genuine warts and all listing, as always. Nothing hidden or covered up. I realise people aren't stupid, and personally hate viewing/buying things, where really obvious negatives have simply not been mentioned - honesty isn't hard lol.
