VW T5 vs T5.1 – Check Before You Buy

The T5 was introduced in 2003, with the facelifted T5.1 arriving in 2010. While the two generations share the same basic Transporter platform, not every component is interchangeable.

Before ordering, check:

• Model year: T5 covers 2003–2009, while T5.1 generally covers 2010–2015.
• SWB or LWB: Short- and long-wheelbase vans require different parts in some areas.
• Roof height: Low, medium and high-roof configurations can affect accessory compatibility.
• Body configuration: Panel Van, Kombi, Caravelle, Shuttle and camper conversions can require different components.
• Tailgate or barn doors: Particularly important when ordering rear body, lighting and accessory parts.
• Engine & gearbox: Mechanical parts need to be matched to the engine and transmission fitted.
